National Citizen Service Opportunities

National Citizen Service (NCS) are working with The Grangefield Academy to offer an amazing opportunity during the summer holidays.

The Grangefield Academy are a big advocate of NCS and actively encourage students to get involved.

NCS is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity open to 15-17 year olds*. The first chance to take part in NCS is at the end of year 11 during the summer holidays, with start dates available throughout July and August. . The start dates of the programme available to you are: 20th July and 4th August. The programme will last for four weeks from the start date chosen.

The programme starts with a week's stay in the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales or Scottish borders complete with plenty of outdoor activities. They'll get to know their NCS family, build confidence and leadership skills and achieve things they never thought possible.

Week two is all about building skills for life; whether it's budgeting, cooking a meal for themselves and their NCS friends, or taking part in workshops. Whilst living away from home in university-style accommodation in the local area they will work with organisations and local businesses to understand the community around them, and the world of opportunity that awaits.

When they return home, they will work together in teams to design, plan and deliver their own social action project on something they feel passionate about. This is the time to put everything they've learnt along the way into practice and make a lasting difference to the local area.

NCS helps builds CVs, offers a chance to meet new people, take on new challenges and fast forward futures. NCS is recognised by UCAS, so is useful for university applications and is also recognised by national employers such as Carillion and Aldi as well as regional apprenticeship providers.

NCS is backed by the government, who heavily subsidise each place. The total cost of the programme is around ?1,400 but no young person will ever pay more than ?50 to take part, which includes everything; all food, accommodation, transport and activities. Any students in receipt of free school meals are eligible for a bursary, reducing the cost further to ?10.

Bookings are now open for the unmissable summer NCS programme.
