World Book Day 2017

2nd Mar 2017

World Book Day 2017

Staff and students have been celebrating World Book Day today in the academy. Staff dressed up as their favourite characters and really have brought literacy to life.

World Book Day is a celebration of books, authors and more importantly, reading. Today marks the biggest celebration of its kind, and its 20th anniversary, with it being celebrated in over 100 countries throughout the world.

We really wanted to make it a special occasion for our students to nurture this love of reading. Y7 students spent the morning in the dining hall reading their favourite books and even had some surprise visitors when some of our staff sat alongside to read with them in full character. During our morning Learning Guide sessions students across the academy were encouraged to bring in their own favourite books to read. There have been literacy competitions held within the library and all together it really has created a fantastic atmosphere as we celebrate this wonderful occasion.
